About Me

Who am I?

That depends on who you ask.

To Rob and Russ, my twin five-year-old sons, I'm Mom, or Mommy, or Mama. I'm their cook, taxi driver, playmate, laundress, referee, law enforcement officer, chief snuggler, and maid. I comfort them when they're sick, I'm their biggest cheerleader when the going gets tough, and I hug the snot out of them each and every day. I also enjoy embarrassing them by singing very loud and off-key in the school drop-off lane.

To Scott, my husband, I'm Carrie, his wife, and his partner in crime. We've had a lot of ups and downs in our ten-year marriage but we're still deeply in love with each other. I'm also his cook, laundress, and maid (I take care of the inside of the house, he takes care of the outside of the house - I'm fine with this because I don't have to shovel snow or mow grass). I do my best to support him in his career every day, since he works outside the home and I don't (but I still work, damn it). I also enjoy annoying him by singing very loud and off-key when we're in the car together.

To most of the other people that I'm honored to know, I'm simply Carrie. I love to read - I'll read the back of a soup can if that's all there is available - and I love to write. I love laughing, and I've been known to blow beverages out of my nose if I laugh hard enough. I'd like to think that I am a good friend, but I don't get out much these days due to my mommy commitments. I like scrapbooking, and I find that I scrapbook better if I'm annoying people by singing very loud and off-key as I crop. I work from home as a freelance writer and proofreader (but if you spot any errors in my blog, well, this is a blog - it's personal - no one is perfect all the time).

On a more serious note, I suffer from bipolar disorder, and I was sexually abused by my stepfather as a child. It took me years of therapy to come to grips with this, and only recently have I been able to talk about it openly. I may discuss it here in the blog, and I may not. I have a lot of stories inside of me and I'm not sure which ones I'm ready to tell just yet. Anyway, I also suffer from chronic migraines, endometriosis, and uterine fibroids. I anticipate having a hysterectomy in early 2012 to rid me of the endo and the fibroids, but the chronic migraines are a weekly struggle.

So, there you have it - me in a nutshell. I'm not sure how I juggle it all, and there are some days when I collapse into bed without changing into my pajamas, but all in all, it's a decent life.
